School Rebuilding Project, Thailand

Cradle began working in the Phang-Nga province north of Phuket in January 2005 as a direct response to the Southeast Asia disaster. Cradle have now established an office in the Takuapa region where we have local representatives working to implement Cradle's emergency aid and community development programmes. One of Cradle's main projects since the disaster has been that of the School Rebuilding Project.

Pakklong School

Cradle and Festival Republic are happy to announce that they have finished building of the Pakklong school in Thailand.

The school was officially opened on the 13th October 2009.

Pakklong is a school in the Kapong District of Thailand, north of Phuket. It caters for 101 children between the ages of 3 to 12 years old.

The old school building was over 40 years old and dilapidated. It had only three classrooms, which meant that children were packed into a very small space and forced to work in hot and cramped conditions.

The new school building will provide much better conditions and improve both the quality of the lessons and the students’ ability to work.

We hope that the new facilities will provide the children with the safe, calm and inspiring environment they need to study.

The Ban Bang Muang School Rebuilding Project

Students of the Ban Bang Muang School

Ban Bang Muang school caters for 687 students and was destroyed in the tsunami. The junior infants building in the school was totally inadequate for the 207 children between the ages of 2 - 5 years attending the school. Cradle in cooperation with the principal and the school board came up with plans for the new school building and began building the school in September 2005. Work continued until February 2006 and the school was offically opened on the 17th February with Cradle's project director, the local govener, the school principal and all the pupils and staff in attendance.
