items, hygiene products, new clothing, educational materials e.t.c
Family Support Programme
This is a rehab project providing assistance to families on a
monthly basis. It began in 1998 for families that received no aid from
any other source. Most of these families are displaces and have been
forced to share accommodation with other families where they all share
basic amenities designed for just one family. There will be no
employment for them until the political and economic situation settles.
Their living conditions are extremely unconfortable.
Student Support Programme
Students choosen for this programme come from families who have no
source of income. In order to continue their schooling they need basic
finacial support for food, study materials and accommadation. The aid
for this programme goes towards a monthly stipend to enable them to
meet these needs. This programme also provides free internet access for
the students.
Resoucing
Cradle provides livestock to families on our family support
programme which enables them to product milk, butter, cheese, eggs
e.t.c. amd thereby become more self-sufficient.
Children's Violin Project
Started in 1996 to help ten severely traumatised children work
through their feelings via music.
They perform every year in front of a
live audience in the Pavarotti music centre. Some of the children have
achieved high enough standards to go to music school and university.
Children's Art Workshop
This workshop was set up to bring children from all ethnic groups
throughout the city together and to teach them the basic art elements.
Children between the ages of 4 -14 years are provided with the
opportunity to participate in art classes twice weekly outside of
school hours. The main aim of the project is to free children's
imaginations while also teaching them how to be spontaneous and to
express their feelings through art.
In
addition to the Art Workshop, Cradle also holds an Open Art Workshop
during the summer months. This project is particularly important for
those children who's parents can not afford to pay for extra-curricular
activities. It takes children off the streets and enables them to spend
time in a safe and friendly enviornment where they have the freedom to
create, play relax and learn.
