Welcome to Cradle

Cradle is a Non-Governmental Organisation working with children and community development projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Thailand, Moldova, Haiti and Cambodia. It is a registered charity, charity number CHY 10807.

Cradle's genesis emanated from a spontaneous reaction of a small group of people in Dublin, who were moved by the suffering of innocent children caught in the atrocities of the appalling war unfolding in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

This group responded by organising the first fund raising event in November 1992, which resulted in the first aid trucks to leave for Mostar in January 1993. What followed was a series of fund raising events, collections and aid deliveries for the next 18 months. It was the overwhelming response from the public that made it possible to deliver emergency humanitarian aid throughout the period of January 1993 through to the cease-fire in May 1994.

Come join the thousands of women taking part in this year’s 10K Flora Women’s Mini Marathon, taking place in Dublin city centre during the bank holiday on

June 6th 2011

Cradle needs as many volunteers as possible to raise money for our ongoing community development projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Thailand and Cambodia, by being sponsored to take part in the event.

Cradle is now working to establish our School Building Project in Cambodia, after we successfully built and re-built several schools in post tsunami Thailand.

Those taking part in fundraising for Cradle will be entered to the Women’s Mini Marathon through the organisation. Changing facilities will also be provided on the day as well as some light refreshments. Cradle will also keep fundraisers updated on how their funding is being used in the best possible way.

Cradle’s May 2011 Trip to Thailand

Join us…..Volunteers wanted!!!!

Cradle is now looking for 12 enthusiastic volunteers to take on the challenge of doing something different. Cradle has been working in Thailand since 2005 and we have already built two schools and rebuilt four other schools in the impoverished country. With your help this time Cradle will help to refurbish the Thahan school, which continues to be hit hard economically following the Tsunami in 2004.

The Thahan school is small, catering to 75 children between three and 12 years of age, and serves families in a disadvantaged and very underdeveloped area. Many of the local villagers worked in the seaside resorts that were destroyed in the Tsunami and now 90% of the families are working on rubber plantations for very low wages.

Volunteers for this project will help in the refurbishment of the Thahan school on a seven day trip to this beautiful country – no skills necessary! To fund this once-in-a-lifetime trip volunteers are asked to raise a minimum of €3,800. This will also cover travel costs, accommodation and food. Cradle will provide all the necessary help and information to get you on your way and a Cradle’s Project Director will accompany the group for the entire trip. If you would like to place a deposit on €150 to book your place on the trip, please get in touch with us today.

One of the previous volunteers to our school-building project in Thailand, Bradlee Banbury, described his experience as setting off “on what was to become the most incredible experience of my life to date”.

Another volunteer Ben Allen said:

It’s hard to believe that a large majority of the kids live on the poverty line. They laugh and smile all day – it’s funny where you can take inspiration from. If I have kids in a few years, I hope they turn out like these...This project was probably the most memorable of my life and I’d like to sincerely thank all at Cradle for giving me this unique and rewarding experience.”
